Play Therapy

Why is Play Therapy so important?

Play Therapy is a Psychotherapy modality used to better assess and treat children and adolescents. Play Therapy provides children of all ages with play materials, which act as unconscious symbols for their world. Permissive Play allows a child to organize and take power over their chaotic world by using toys to resolve trauma and process their confusing feelings. Play also allows the experienced therapist to decode metaphors and themes in a child's unconscious play to gauge the progress of their client's therapeutic journey.

Liz Christie safely guides her client’s through the healing process by providing the necessary prescriptive play for a client to effectively express themselves. Playful Solutions uses puppetry, story telling, sandtray, games and Therapeutic art within a Play Therapy and Child-centred approach.

Parents play a key role in the emotional therapeutic process. Parents may be involved for part or the whole session with their child. Parents are the support network their children need to help them manage their big emotions day to day.

Liz Christie knows that some ages respond better to direct communication when processing their big feelings. Talk therapy is a therapeutic modality which involves connecting with a client through a conscious conversation.

Talk therapy allows children, adolescents and teens to be provided with new perspectives, coping strategies and problem solving through the use of Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Play Therapy.
